Here at Dons Auto Pages you will find lots of information and links to Kitcars
on the internet
You can see a list of Kitcar manufacturers here.
I guess overall the main reason for building a kit car is the chance to either get a car that
looks like a million dollars or performs like a million dollars or in many case does both
on a budget that is considerably less than a million dollars.
The sort of kitcar that can achieve these results are many and varied, from 100HP lightweights
to 300 to 400HP grunters which in both cases will give excellent performance and handling.
A lightweight car can be something like the following:
Tom Reier's Grinnall Scorpion # 151. This is an extreme
performance cyclecar, using
a BMW K series engine of your choice as to size 750-1200cc.
Tom used a K1100RS (16 valve) in his. It's like a go kart on
steroids...0-60 in easily done in approximately five seconds, and
it handles quite well, with double a-arms up front, coilover
inboard shocks and rack n pinion steering.
Grinnall #151
It weighs about
925 lbs tops, with a full tank of gas, and the engine is setup
with a special stainless exhaust system much larger and
less restrictive than stock, so it's about 110 bhp...a lot of
fun. So far there are only two in the U.S., but since it performs
with the best supercars, and gets no less than 36 mpg!!
there should be a lot of interest over here. Quality of the kit
is very high, frame and components all nicely powdercoated,
top flight ppg paint, and about 100-150 hours assembly time,
if you have your donor engine ready to go.
Thanks Tom

One could build a 425HP
Cobra Kitcar with the following specs:
What some people define as the ultimate grunt machine with 425HP @ 6500
rpm, 4 on the floor, fats on the back and 2350 lbs. or say 2600 lbs. all up.
This will give something like 3.4secs. 0-60 mph and 12.00 sec ET. You will grow hairs on your chest if you drive one of
these :):):):):):):.
